Best time to ski in France

The best time to ski in France is between December and April. There are pros to skiing in each month. December to February have some of best snow conditions, especially in high-altitude resorts like Chamonix, Val d'Isère, and Tignes. Skiing in March can offer excellent snow conditions, and the weather starts to warm up, making it a great time for spring skiing. Resorts tend to be less crowded than in peak season, but still with plenty of snow in higher altitude resorts.

Skiing in April in a high altitude resort such as Tignes can also be a good time. The weather is milder, making it a popular time for those who prefer a more relaxed experience.

Ski food in the French Alps

Of course boarding and skiing in France is not just about the slopes. Eating is a big deal in the French Alps, and you’ll be doing a lot of it to give you energy for your adventures. While international favourites are easy to come by, there are plenty of local specialities to be sampled, including fondues, raclettes, tartiflettes and gratins, all featuring wonderful gruyère or other local cheeses made from milk provided by cows grazing the rich mountain pastures.

After a day on the slopes, you can also relax with a delicious evening dinner at our Chalet Hotel L'Ecrin. A high tea is available for children 12 years and under.
